Leather Care Products – The Investment That Protects the Investment

A genuine leather bag, wallet or accessory is a long-term investment. With proper care, it will outlast synthetic alternatives by years or decades while developing an increasingly personal character. Without care, even the finest leather will eventually dry, crack and lose the surface quality that made it worth choosing. Leather care products are the small but essential part of the leather ownership equation that makes the long-term difference.

At STILORD, we design leather care products specifically formulated for the types of leather used across our range. Not generic leather care that may be unsuitable for specific leather grades, but care products developed to maintain the surface, suppleness and colour of STILORD leathers through years of daily use.

The Leather Care Routine

Regular Cleaning

Surface dust and oils accumulate on leather through daily handling. A soft, slightly damp cloth wiped gently across the leather surface removes this accumulation without affecting the leather itself. Do this weekly for bags in daily use, monthly for less frequently used pieces.

Conditioning

Leather is a natural material that can dry out over time, particularly in heated indoor environments and during winter months. A quality leather conditioner applied every three to four months replenishes the natural oils that keep leather supple and prevent the surface cracking that characterises neglected leather. Apply sparingly with a soft cloth and allow to absorb fully before use.

Protection

For leather exposed to rain or humid conditions, a leather protection product creates a surface barrier that repels moisture without affecting the leather's natural appearance or breathability. Apply before the first use of a new bag and refresh periodically thereafter.

What to Avoid

  • Direct heat: Never dry wet leather near a radiator or with a hairdryer – allow it to dry naturally at room temperature.
  • Direct sunlight: Prolonged UV exposure fades leather colour and dries the surface. Store leather pieces away from direct sunlight.
  • Harsh cleaning products: Household cleaners, alcohol-based products and bleach damage leather permanently. Use only products formulated specifically for leather.
  • Over-conditioning: More leather conditioner is not better – apply sparingly and allow full absorption. Excess conditioner can darken leather or leave a greasy surface.
